Springleaf Park creatures

It was our third trip to Springleaf Park last Sunday.  The morning was scorching hot. I had to use a huge umbrella to protect myself from the sun's merciless rays and I must have looked like I got lost looking for a golf course. Anyway the insects that we were seeking must have been affected by the heat as well and other than the resilient dragonflies and damselflies along the banks of the leisurely flowing Seletar river, they were missing in action. There was minimal flying activity amongst the tall grass and shrubs and we were again disappointed with the no-show in the insect kingdom. However, our visit was not entirely boring as other creatures made unexpected appearances.

Ulu Pandan Park Connector

What is a Park Connector? I think this expression is unique to Singapore. However, it is not difficult to deduce its meaning from the words. A park connector is a path or a route that connects parks enabling people to move between parks on foot or bicycles seamlessly. This morning was the first time that I set foot on one of the numerous park connectors in Singapore - the Ulu Pandan Park Connector by the side of the Ulu Pandan river. Although we did not walk the full length of the park connector, we spent enough time there to savour the peaceful trail and observe the flowers and wildlife by the river.

Upper Peirce Reservoir

There are many monkeys in Upper Peirce Reservoir and despite billboards and signs not to feed them, there were one or two drivers who stopped their cars on the road to let their kids gape at these monkeys hoping for food. Perhaps when other cars had passed them by, they would throw food out of their windows. What these ignoramuses did not realise is that they could be prosecuted for feeding the monkeys and what is worse, their stationary cars are a hazard to other road users. I do not have any photos of the monkeys here but you get the picture. Anyway, nature was there to be enjoyed and I have the photos to show that if you programme your brain to get a kick out of little wonders, the day will pass beautifully.
Sap oozing from a tree.
Beautiful bubble-like formations.
Snails left these trails
